Newsletter December 2022

Reminder: the committee do not actively monitor the WhatsApp groups.  Please email info@blocbus.org with any queries or concerns.

I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable second half of the term. Before we break up for the Christmas holidays I wanted to send a few reminders and updates about the buses.

Phase 2 – Revised Routes from January

The phase 2 revised routes will be coming into effect from the start of next term.  The updated routes and times are now live on the website.

As a reminder, the main changes are:

  • Route 1: Now includes stops in North Oxford and all stops on the Abingdon Road and in Kennington and Radley.
  • Route 3: Botley Road stops moved to the start of route 3
  • Route 4: All Abingdon stops have been re-orgainsed into an Abingdon only route.
Please note that the bus now travels in the opposite direction on some roads, so your bus stop may be on the other side of the road!

We will monitor times on the new routes and may need to make adjustments to the timetables in the first few weeks of the new term.

Wednesday Lunchtime Buses

  • Bus 1&3 will operate while the Botley Road is open.  When this closes the service will stop.
  • Only Senior School pupils registered as Full-time or Part-time PM users with Bloc are permitted use the Wednesday Lunchtime service.  Random checks will be conducted at the school and anyone not listed as an eligible user will not be allowed to ride the bus.
  • No more ad-hoc requests can be taken as there will be no capacity given the school’s change in S1 teaching schedules next term.
  • Bus stop list for Wednesday lunchtime has been revised, and may need further changes depending on usage with changes to the school timetable.  Please check the stop on the bloc website and send comments to info@blocbus.org.

Bus Capacity and Ad Hoc Usage

Most buses are at or close to capacity next term, particularly in the afternoons. We will only be able to offer ad-hoc seats on morning buses.

  • Seats must be requested 7 days in advance and tickets paid for before travelling.
Please contact the treasurer and registrar for these requests.
  • Tickets are only available to existing Bloc bus users, not for guests.

Invoices

Invoices for Spring term have been sent.

Payment is due in full by the due date on the invoice.  This is allows us to pay the bus company on time.  Failure to pay on time may result in your seat being given to people on the waiting list.

Bus Trackers

To resolve the delayed updates on the bus trackers we need switch them to new SIM cards.  This has not been done yet, but we hope to test and roll out new SIMs early in the Spring term.

Enjoy the holidays,

The Bloc Committee
