BLOC aims to continue the success achieved since is foundation. To maintain this BLOC wishes to ask that users and parents of users follow some best practices to ensure:
- The wellbeing of all users
- To maintain a good community spirit
- To support the Europa School is being able to assist with the movement of pupils, especially those of a younger age, transition across the school site to and from the bus arrival and departure locations.
Parents with children in reception to primary year 3, should ALWAYS remember to contact Europa School via this link to advise the school of when your child commences using a BLOC bus, which bus route they will use and also when there is a change to the use the bus service.
New BEST PRACTICE
For parents with children that may require support, whether that be due to additional needs or clinical reasons (during the school day and may include whilst on BLOC buses), we believe that this best practice should be followed. We have liaised with the school on this to be consistent and to ensure that pupils will be able to access school.:
Steps
1) Ensure the School is aware of the method by which the pupil will access school, this includes travelling to and from the school site.
2) Ensure the specific need, clinical or otherwise, is communicated to the school and BLOC. This includes any specific measures or clinical aids (devices / medicines) that the pupil must carry with them as directed by the appropriate professional.
3) Give a lot of consideration as to whether the pupil feels confident / competent about using the bus unsupervised.
4) Liaise with the BLOC committee and community to appeal for volunteers to support the pupil during their journeys to and from school. This shall be known as finding a “Buddy” who supports the pupil when circumstances necessitate it.
5) Ensure the Buddy feels no pressure and provide all relevant information that would allow them to support the pupil. Parents should never place any responsibility on the Buddy – remember they are likely to be a child themselves. Liaise through the Buddy’s parents, so everything is transparent
6) Ensure that the pupil travels on the BLOC buses sitting close to their Buddy.
